The Nintendo Switch: Common Repairs and Reasons to Hire a Professional Repair Service - Part 2 of 2
Our last blog on the Switch gaming console offered some of the more common repairs we see in a professional Switch repair capacity. Here we describe some solutions to Switch problems that may not require professional intervention
The portable nature of the Nintendo Switch makes it susceptible to damage. Although many common problems can be easily fixed, some will require the help of professional repair services.
Here are some typical Nintendo Switch repair solutions and the signs that indicate expert assistance is required.
My Switch won’t turn on
One of the most common problems is the console refusing to turn on. This is usually caused by either an empty battery or a hardware glitch. The first solution would be to ensure that the batteries are charged. If not, charge the battery first and then turn the console back on again.
Another solution would be a hard reset to control the hardware glitch. To do so:
Press the power button on the console for about twelve seconds. This should turn off the console.
Wait for at least five seconds, then press the power button once. This should turn on the console.
If this doesn’t solve the problem, you can call Nintendo customer service or have an expert look at it.
Unreadable cartridge
Dust and debris can block the gold connectors on the cartridge or accumulate in the game card slot. This can cause the Switch to fail to load the game. Check the slot for any blockages, and try to remove them using small tweezers. Do not attempt to blow into the slot as moisture of any kind will cause damage to the connectors.
If the cartridge has any dirt, wipe the connectors with a microfiber cloth. A regular cloth or tissue may scratch the connector surface and damage the cartridge.
Scratched screens
One of the most straightforward solutions for scratched screens would be to prevent this damage in the first place. Screen protectors are available for the console and should be used when the Switch is taken out of the box. If the screen already has scratches, nothing can be done other than replace it entirely via Nintendo customer service.
Do note that having Nintendo take care of the problem will be expensive. Also, Nintendo may be experiencing a service backlog which means repairs will take some time.
The screen has dead pixels
Dead pixels are a factory problem and should fall under a manufacturer’s warranty. If there are any dead pixels on your Switch screen, it’s best to contact Nintendo to inquire about the warranty.
Hire professional assistance
As an alternative to Nintendo’s customer service, seek the help of a professional repairman. This is ideal if the nearest service center has a long wait time or the console is already out of warranty.
Repairing the Switch requires specialized tools, and tinkering with the console on your own will likely cause more damage. Unless the Nintendo service center is a more convenient option, getting a professional repair service to do the job is the better option.
